combination of many email problems I cannot even close to working out. Please help!! Thank you

hi there, I cannot see the toolbar in my emails anymore and nan no longer see if my email have sent and some emails are showing from months ago and new ones seem scattered. Please help. Also, I have no real understanding what a 'ribbon' is or how to make sense of it in relation to fixing things. Thank you in advance for any help
