Verification code not auto-filling on iPad keyboard

Apple wouldn’t let me reply so I am trying on just starting a new thread

9th generation. I’m receiving the email with the code but it’s not popping up on my keyboard. I used to be able to just tap it and it would autofill. Now I have to leave the page, open my email and cut and paste it
