Brother MFC-J6530DW stopped scanning after Sequoia was installed

Mac Mini, M1, 2020. After installing Sequoia 15.1 update by Brother MFC-J6530DW will no longer accept SCAN command using the Brother iPrint&Scan application. The status shows as follows:

The printer function - including AirPrint - works fine. Printer is set up on home wireless and on hard-wired ethernet as well. Scan worked perfectly until the last update. Any ideas?
