You have encountered activation lock. It is a theft deterrent feature meant to make a lost or stolen device useless to anyone other than the rightful owner. It is very effective.

There is no way to bypass it. You either need to regain access to the Apple account that was signed into the device, or you will need to provide Apple with the original proof of purchase form an authorized retailer to have the activation lock removed.

Doesn’t matter. If you don’t have the original receipt from an authorized retailer, you can’t get the activation lock removed.
