How to turn of Transperency Mode when using single AirPod?

I had a pair of the AirPod Pro #1 for almost 3 years and absolutely loved them, with zero criticisms for how they felt or how I heard my music and the world around me. I lost my trusty AirPods over 2 months ago, and I finally bit the bullet and bought a new set of AirPod Pro 2s last week.

My only complaint with the second gen is that I CANNOT turn off the transparency mode when I use just a single AirPod. If I have one AirPod in, I don’t need to hear the world around me, that’s what my second ear is for.

I’ve tried the few things I could find on here (use both at once, and turn it off and it’ll follow; go into your Accessibility menu > Audio/Visual > Headphone accommodation) but the transparency mode is still on, albeit slightly less.

I want this forever off, a perma-delete if you will. I’ve never used the transparency mode, and I hate the way that the world sounds around me if it’s on.

Does anyone have any tips, tricks, hints, help, ideas or suggestions to accomplish this, besides from going back to Gen 1 Pros?

Thank you, and any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Whenever I go into Control Center and long press on my Volume slider, I have 3 options: Noise Control, Conversation Awareness and Spatial Audio. Noise Control had 3 options; Transparency, Adaptive and Noise Cancellation, the latter 2 only available with both AirPods in.

Thankfully, Reddit was far more helpful than this annd any other Apple forum. To gain the “Off” option under Noise Control, you have to go into the AirPods settings (with at least one AirPod inserted), scroll towards the bottom and enable the “Off Listening Mode”, hit “Okay” on the Hearing Protection prompt, then you have the ability to turn off Transparency/Adaptive/Noise Cancellation.
