When you add categories or groups, bold black lines and arrows to toggle them are created. If you're trying to keep a certain color scheme for your table, they ruin the look (if you don't have black in your table). Can they both (the lines and arrows) be changed? I've tried selecting the entire table and changing all the borders of the table and it doesn't affect them.

You can change the arrows by changing the text color of the category labels. The change applies to all of the labels, you can't change just one. I don't know how/if the lines can be changed. Not that I can find.
The lines and background colour will be changed depending on the Table Style.
Just select or create a Table Style you like.

Yes, thanks much! When I applied my table style, that changed, but neglected to update the question context. Now, I'm thinking the lines can't be changed since they didn't change with table style applied. :(
