Filevault is of no consequence, but yes you should enable FV to ensure that Mac's contents remain inaccessible to anyone but you.

Protect data on your Mac with FileVault - Apple Support

"Turning on FileVault provides an extra layer of security by keeping someone from decrypting or getting access to your data without entering your login password."

... and if your Mac is an M-series model or has the T2 chip it's already encrypted.

I take it you had some experience with e set.

Yes. Do not use it, or anything like it. Not if you want your Mac to work.

No, not needed, after uninstalling it'd pay to run the free etrecheck to see if eSET lat any cgaff hanging...

EtreCheck is a FREE simple little diagnostic tool to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac. It will not display any personal info. Give it Full Disk Access.

Give etrecheck Full Disk Access before running.

Thanks for Old Toad’s etrecheck instructions…

Using Third Party Security Software on macOS

That is so MS Windows thinking

Once this type of software is installed and embedded into the computer >> ESET

You can spend hours or days hunting down all the bits and pieces of this software and never really get it all off the computer

Start Over from Scratch

For Apple Silicon computer >> Use Disk Utility to erase a Mac with Apple silicon.

For Apple Intel computers >>   Use Disk Utility to erase an Intel-based Mac followed by How to reinstall macOS

Always make a Time Machine Backup  before  proceeding

If going this route - I suggest Not using Startup Assist to migrate everything back.

This will probably Re-Introduce ( ESET ) back into the Operating System
