AVCHD Clips Not Importing - Ideas?

Hi Community,

When I try to import AVCHD files into Final Cut Pro 10 or 11, the video appears/scrubs in the import window, the audio track does not/is missing, and when I initiate the import I get an "import failed" message (and nothing is transferred over) – screenshot below.

This happens regardless of whether I import directly from the SD card, or from a copy of the card on my HD.

Things I've tried:

Initializing the SD cards and reshooting
Shooting in different resolution and FPS settings on my camera (Canon Vixia HF S200)
Checking and deleting any potentially conflicting extensions (e.g. Perian), and apps on my mac
Importing while booted in Safe mode

I see a number of related posts on this forum and others. Thoughts on how to fix this?

Figured it out: even though all updated codecs were installed on my Mac, I found a dated/conflicting "A52Codec.component" file in my personal (not system) Library (Path: ~User/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components). Once removed, audio issues went away and AVCHD imports began working properly.

Where are you importing to? How is that drive formatted? How large is the drive and how much free space?

Does FCP have Full Disk Access enabled in System Settings?

Have you tried resetting FCP Settings? Hold option and command while launching and choose Delete Settings.

Thank you very much for reporting back. Search results show the A52Codec.component was something included with the discontinued Perian app.

Might be worth pasting a report here from https://etrecheck.com using the "Additional text" button below in your reply to double-check you don't have other super old and incompatible software still on your machine.
