After updating to iOS 18.1.1 my Notes app is not working correctly

After updating to iOS 18.1.1 my Notes app is not working correctly.

It is very slow to respond and opening notes, pressing the … or pressing and holding does not work some of the time.

One particular, important, note will not open at all.

This note is very large but has always opened fine before the update.

I have no screen issues in any other app.

I can move the note from on my phone to iCloud but it will not open in either folder.

I have closed all apps and turned my phone off completely but this makes no difference other than I might be able to press and hold on said note or press the … to move it.

Sometimes when the note is tapped it will go a slightly different shade, as though it is opening, but nothing happens even after leaving it until my phone sleeps.


I really need access to this particular note. Does anyone have any advice?

Same. Short notes are fine. Longer notes won’t open or they open and immediately crash . Please find a fix! I need the long notes I had. They won’t open on phone at all. I tap the specific note and it does nothing. iPad it will open but immediately crashes. Won’t open at all on Mac or in iCloud. Everything worked fine yesterday. Last night my phone automatically updated. Today I can’t open any long notes. HELP!

I was on with Apple support yesterday. They are allegedly aware and working on it.


They were not able to help me fix it so far but gave me some reset suggestions I will include below.


I WAS able to move my note from ‘on my phone’ to ‘iCloud’ and access it on a web browser following the link they sent. PHEW! (Sorry if this is not working for others).


Force restart instructions:

To start, may I confirm also if have you tried to perform a force restart on your device? Just to differentiate, restart needs to slide the power button to turn off the device while force restart requires pressing the correct buttons until it automatically restarts with Apple Logo.   

Here’s how to do force restart: Shut down device then press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.


Online iCloud access:

May I confirm if you've already tried to check that particular note also on http://icloud.com after you logged in?

So while it is still one of the issues that is actively working on with by our engineers here on Apple, I kindly request for you to have a copy of that note from your http://iCloud.com and paste and create a new note on your app for your access to that note and to make sure you can still be use it.

That is the workaround we have for now for you to continuously use the that particular note.

I’ve found a workaround: share the affected notes (or the folder containing them) with a contributor (use someone who hasn’t yet upgraded). Then ask the contributor to select the entire note and save it in another format (Word doc, Google doc, etc…). Formatting will be retained.

Large notes are probably better suited to such a format anyway.
