iMovie sets the project resolution when you put the first clip into the timeline.

You must have started your project with a 720p clip which is why you are limited to an export of 720p.

If you want to export 1080p you must make sure your first clip is 1080p . . . you can always delete it later if it is not required.

I started a new video in iMovie 10.4.3 and added the first clip.

I then went to share the file to set the resolution, but the resolution “1080” was already selected by iMovie.

“Please note that my previous iMovie video, updated to 10.4.3, which would not give me the resolution option of 1080, was initially created on iMovie 10.3.8.”

Was it the chicken or the egg?

Thank you.
