How do I remove my phone from the lost stolen list?

I am trying to pass my old phone to a family member but it has been reported as lost or stolen. It hasn’t been. It is next to me. I have never reported it as lost or stolen and neither has my carrier.

How do I get it off the list so it can be used? It has $$ value still so I am pretty mad at the whole situation.

Who do I have to call/contact to get this resolved? I have the original receipt for the phone still which was purchased new from my carrier.

That is correct. Only the carrier that locked it will be able to remove the lock and that information is not available to other carriers. It is a crazy system, but one they designed to supposedly protect you. Apple is not involved and unable to remove the lock.

  • If your carrier did not lock it, is it possible that someone else had used the phone on a different carrier in the past?
  • Is the SIM card that is in the phone the original SIM card from your carrier?

So here is how this works. CTIA is a cellular carrier association. A member can access the database and if a fellow member has black listed the IMEI, any carrier can see its black listed.

Ask the carrier that sold the device who black listed it. Apple does not participate in CTIA to the best of my knowledge. They are a manufacturer, not a carrier.

Unfortunately the carrier cannot see that information. That was what I was informed by them when I first started trying to resolve this. I have spent over 15 hours on the phone with the carrier and Apple trying to get to the bottom of this with multiple visits to their stores to talk directly with them. At this point no one knows what to do. The only advice I have received is to call - every - carrier until one fesses up and removes the IMEI if from the block list.

This is insane and absurd.

I have reset the phone to factory defaults as I plan on passing it down to a family member who needs it. I have a new phone. The list is the CTIA IMEI ID Block list. My old phone cannot be activated by any carrier as it has been marked as lost or stolen in the National Lost/Stolen database.

The database was implemented to make it impossible for a lost or stolen phone to be activated (usable) on any cellular network.

My issue is the phone is not and has never been lost or stolen! It was removed from my iCloud account and the “Find my” function turned off before the phone was wiped and reset to factory defaults.

Somehow somewhere somebody put my phone on this block list, making it totally unusable. I have the original receipt for the phone from the carrier I purchased it from so I can prove the phone is mine!

My issue is there does not appear to be anyway for a legitimate owner to challenge the record in the database and get their phone removed from the block list. As there is still $$ value to the phone, I am now the victim of fraud.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Phone was purchased brand new from my carrier. Only SIM card ever used was from that carrier. Phone is in my possession. No one else has ever used it.

This is why I am so frustrated. By “Protecting Me” from someone else stealing or using my phone on a different network the CTIA has made it impossible for me to give my phone to anyone OR Trade it in!!! That is Fraud as the trade in value is 1/3 of the original price of the phone.
