How do you stop opening previous file(s) when opening app Mac OS Big Sur

Whenever I open an app whatever file I had open during the previous session reopens. This just started happening. I did not change anything. Even if I close the files and delete the list of Recent files before closing the app they still open and the Recent list reappears.

"Open Recent" Why doesn't this save my recently opened files anymore? Mac Sonoma 14.0 Pages 13.2 I've used a Mac for many years. I've always been able to go into Pages, Keynote or Numbers and click on the third selection down under file called "Open Recent" and then find the most recent files I've been working on. The current "solution" for this question does not work because the Preferences has changed in newer versions. Also I have a feeling my issue is in the root files under library and not just a problem with checking a box. Does anyone have experience with this and know how to fix it? The issue exists for all of my iWork. If I go to "Recent Files" in my finder menu that works fine. I'm taking about inside the actually apps.

How to Clear or reset the "Open With" list Is this the best way to clear the "Open With" list or is there a more straight-forward method? https://www.macobserver.com/tips/how-to/remove-items-open-with-macos/ Since I updated to Ventura 13.4.1 My "Open With" list shows all versions of Firefox from version 110 to 114 and several Vivaldi versions in which I rarely ever use. I ran Onyx and it didn't fix it. Neither did resetting Recent Items to zero and then back to 5 again. Which did work previous to this version of Ventura. Here’s my list: (For .webloc files on the Desktop, when I right click, "Open With" ) Should I report this as a bug to: Feedback - macOS - Apple ?

I had not changed anything when this suddenly began yet the following solved the problem:

System Preferences > General > Check box for Close windows when quitting an app
