iPhone swapped to international format while dialing. How do we cancel this?

I guess since Apple AI was introduced this kind of stuff is going to happen until Apple can fix their own software... again. My iPhone out of the blue started grouping telephone numbers in an international format.

What used to look like this when you dialed...

Now looks like this...

This is very confusing and not asked for nor set.

Anyone know how to permanently stop this from happening. I've already cycled dial assist on and back off again, which didn't help.

I've also already been told by the help here that it doesn't really matter or affect anything, which I know. I don't need those comments please.

If you know how to fix this please comment. Thank you.

I had English and German selected as "available" languages. I deleted the German language leaving only English. I then swapped regions to Germany and back to the United States. I also turned on Dial Assist and turned that off again. I restarted my iPhone and now it's back to normal.

So is this what we should expect with Apples new AI? Changed settings that we don't do nor do we want?

If you turn off Dial Assist all of your text addresses will be prefixed with “+1” and won’t be delivered.

I didn't say that. Using multiple languages increases the chance of that sort of glitches from "really, really, really close to zero" to "really, really close to zero."

There should be no reason why this format should change as I have NEVER swapped to an international format and I've NEVER swapped my region out of the United States. So why would my phone swap to another format without me ever having selected that, unless....

Something went wrong. It happens. Technology is not perfect.

Apple AI or a program that changes the phone based upon "learning" has done it? The answer is the iPhone changed this... so if it is a bad thing its not AI but if its a good thing it IS AI? Is that what you mean?

Apple Intelligence doesn't have any functions that change your settings. You can read about the currently available features here:

You can also turn off Apple Intelligence if you don't like it.

For years, every time there is a problem with an iPhone/iPad/Mac, there have been a people who have said, "It's the update! It did this! It wrecked my device." I guess now there will be people saying, "AI broke my phone!"

It has nothing to do with Apple Intelligence. Sometimes glitches happen. They happened before AI and will keep happening.

It has long been the case that having multiple languages selected increases the chances of things like this. Again, nothing to do with AI.

It has also been the case for as long as I can remember that updates reset some settings.

Americans don't speak multiple languages in general but in other countries people speak multiple languages and need two or more languages listed in the Languages & Region page. Furthermore, the region is set to the USA so the dialing should be in USA format. Also, apps default to the language listed on top, which I have set to English.
