My Amazon account shows an active subscription, but when I access Apple TV either on a firestick or a PC using the same email address as Amazon, it tells me I have expired and need to renew with a credit card. How do I make sure that the accounts are connected?

There's 2 types of subscriptions. The stand-alone subscription you can use in the Amazon Prime App, and the Chanel subscription you can use inside the Apple TV app.
If you are subscribed directly through Amazon, then you subscription is for the Prime App only and will not work in the Apple TV app channel.
Download the Prime app to your Firestick or PC instead.

Wait, so you are subscribed to Amazon Prime or to Apple TV+?
The Apple TV+ subscription from Amazon can only be accessed through the Prime app, but I believe you need to have an active Prime subscription to access it too.
You would need to find the Apple TV+ channel inside the Amazon Prime app in the "Subscriptions" section.
Update. I just claimed the trail and canceled the subscription on Amazon. Amazon now shows both, only the triaI says it uses prime billing. I'll let the old one expire. Not sure why that happened but think this is a workaround.
It's amazon prime. The subscription channel in the app asks to start a trial, even though Amazon.com shows subscribed to Apple TV. The rest of my content synchs well.
That sound right, but in prime video it asks me to get apple trial. Under channel subscriptions it shows no subscriptions. Yet in amazon.com it shows an active apple subscription. All with the same email address. Prime video rentals hit my Amazon account so it is connected.
