When mounting encrypted drive, password dialog isn't active.

I have an encrypted external drive that I store my projects and source code on. Whenever I plug it in, it mounts and displays a dialog to enter the password, except the dialog isn't the current focus, I have to click on it to enter the password.


I seem to remember in previous MacOS versions, the dialog would display and become the current focus so you could type the password without any delay. A minor annoyance I know, but it's bugging me now.

You are lucky that you even see the password prompt even if it is not in focus. A few years ago I would sometimes never be prompted to unlock an encrypted external drive....I had launch Disk Utility and manually mount it so I was prompted to unlock the volume.
