Final Cut has not been working since I upgraded my OS

My MacBook Pro is mid-2015, OS Monterey 12.7.5. It is not upgradeable to the next OSs.

My Final Cut has not been working since I upgraded my OS. It says it is incompatible with OS Monterey, and asks me to go to the App Store. When I click, it only brings me the option to purchase FCP again. I do have a licence. It also says that the OS 14 is required. It is not possible to have OS 14 on my Mac. Any solution, besides purchasing a new Mac? Any other free Apple App to edit?

Click on your account at the bottom left of the App Store window.

Final Cut Pro should be there, on your list of purchases.

If it is, you'll be fine.

If it says "Update", then click the Update button.

If it only says "Open": quit the App Store, go to your Applications folder, and drag Final Cut Pro to the trash - don't empty it. Then go back to your account in the App Store and click the download button.

You will be warned that the current version (which is now FCP 11) does not work on your OS, and asked if you want the most recent compatible version. Confirm.

Now if you don't see Final Cut Pro amongst your purchases, it is trickier. Maybe you used a different Apple id? Maybe you bought it bundled with your mac and never "accepted" the purchase into your id?

Let us know.

The free version of Resolve is more capable than FCP.

Resolve

The only things lacking are Voice Isolation and the Magnetic Mask.

Because it is a true professional app it has considerably more adjustable parameters and as such the interface looks more formidable and may require a steeper learning curve.

FCP like iMovie, is designed for ease of use and beginners can achieve results with a minimum of fuss.

I suppose a good analogy would be to think of them as an automatic car versus one with a manual gearbox.

"Accepting" would only need to occur when purchasing FCP bundled with a new mac.

In either of the two other alternatives (buying FCP alone, or the ProApps Bundle), it would already be tied to your id.

Did you purchased FCP directly at the App Store? Or perhaps the bundle (including Logic, Motion, Compressor and MainStage, I believe)?

If it is not appearing, then either it was bought with a different Apple id, or maybe it is hidden.

In the account page, click "Account Settings".

There is a section about hidden purchases. See if it is there.
