The scammers used a stolen payment card to send you cash.

The payment providers will claw back that fraudulent transfer.

You’re then out whatever you sent.

That money the scammer sent never was, and your returning transfer is no more.

Switch to manual acceptance of Apple Cash payments, and don’t accept unexpected payments from unknown people. That’ll block most of these scams:

You can report the fraud, of course. The payment providers will block associated accounts and related details.

But your money is gone.

Actual loan services might well be usurious, but they also won’t ask for immediate return of the payment.

Mr. Hoffman is correct. It was a scam from the get go.

Do you mean you sent them money using Apple Cash in the Messages app?

Apple specifically tells you to only send money using Apple Cash to people you know as there are no protections that would be offered by a Credit card purchase. This is a private transaction between 2 people, just like you had given someone on the street $500, with the only recourse to ask them for the money back.

Apple Cash person-to-person payments are like any other private transaction between two people, so only send and receive money with people you know.
