Magic Mouse lagging

I recently switched computers and I am now working off of my husband's MacBook Pro 16-inch (2019).

Processor: 2.3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9; Graphics: AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8GB/ Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB; Memory: 32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4; OS: Sonoma 14.6.1

The issue that I am having is that my Magic Mouse is lagging and jumping when I attempt to use it with the new computer. It is a brand new mouse (received this morning) and I did not have this problem previously with my former Macbook. The trackpad works just fine with no lagging.

I tried a workaround that I saw on this community and it also did not work. (instructions below) It required shutting down and restarting the computer and holding Option/Command/P/R upon restart in order to reset. I did get the restart sound twice and then my login screen came up. The mouse still laggs.
