Fake Apple text scam?

I received this text on my iPhone and am pretty sure it’s a fake but I want to make sure—-

How does Apple contact community members if it suspects any kind of fraud?

here is the text

Apple Approval Notice

We have noticed that your Apple iCloud id was recently used at "APPLE STORE - CA" for $143.95, paid by Apple Pay Pre Authorization. Also some suspicious sign in request and apple pay activation request detected. That looks like suspicious to us. In order to maintain the security and privacy of your account we have placed those request on hold. If NOT you? talk to an Apple Representative. Failing may lead to auto debit and charge will not be reversed. Call +1 877325**** immediately to cancel this charge.

Scam.

Apple will block your Apple Account — Apple calls it an Apple Account too and not that “Apple iCloud id”, and there are ample other grammar and phrasing issues in that — pending resolution, and not mess around with texts.

The number doesn’t show up as Apple, either.

If all that isn’t sufficiently convincing, call Apple on one of their published numbers, and ask them. Apple’s list of worldwide numbers: Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support — numbers and links in messages aren’t always trustworthy, and can be a good indication of being a not-trustworthy message.

Block and move on, though the scammers will use other numbers and send more, of course. The “hello pervert” scam spam is endemic, for instance. Romance scams, cryptocurrency scams, unexpected text messages from unknown numbers are ~always garbage.

You can silence texts from unknown senders too, which reduces the disruption these folks cause.

I got the exact same text message and foolishly called the number and spoke to a helpful guy with an Indian accent who said he was an Apple support employee and gave me what he said was his badge number. I finally realized it was a scam when he said he would connect me to Apple support to set up two factor authentication and I immediately got a FaceTime audio call from a random email address. That guy sounded similar to the first guy, then I hung up.
