but what tells the power supply to keep its voltage at a safe level for the ipad batteries?

Two things:

  1. The iPad itself has a U2 chip that regulates the amount of power that the iPad's logic board can receive.
  2. The Apple MFi-certified charging cable has two chips: E75 which acts as a "gate keeper" to verify that the power adapter is acceptable, and the NXP300 chip which is a voltage regulator.

However, if the power supply cannot be regulated by both of these, then there is a potential that it could damage your iPad.

In my experience, Anker makes quality devices. I suggest that you check with them to see if this power hub is a good match for your iPad.

no, watt == volt (for usb it's always 5volts) * current

the current is not pushed it's pulled so if say your device

charge by 2 amp current that would mean it would need 10watt wattage

but you could use a 10000watt charger and the device would still only draw the 10watt (2amps) for it and the last would just be untabbed current availability
