External storage options for Mac Mini M4

I am looking to possibly buy a Mac Mini M4....what kind of storage can i buy that will work for it? I was hoping to buy it tomorrow on Black Friday. What is the most bang for the buck? I was going to get a 2 Tb SSD, but I have no idea what works with it. Thanks!

The M4 Mac mini has three multi-purpose USB-C ports on the back that support

  • Traditional USB - at speeds up to 10 Gb/s (USB 3.1 Gen 2 speed)
  • USB4 40 Gbps
  • Thunderbolt
  • DisplayPort

Any of these (except DisplayPort) can be used to attach a SSD, and the Mac will select the protocol to use based on what you plug in.

It has two single-purpose USB-C ports on the front that support

  • Traditional USB – at speeds up to 10 Gb/s (USB 3.1 Gen 2 speed)

but not USB4 or Thunderbolt.

It is easy to go from USB-A to USB-C if needed.

The best out there right now is the:

Not cheap however very fast and Macsales.com specializes in Macs so if/when support is needed you can be assured they will be there to assist. It also means that when these devices were designed they were designed for Mac users. I don't work for them, I am just a satisfied longtime customer.

Oh then this is sonething to be decided before purchase. Keep in mind anything internal will be more effective (faster) for demanding applications (music or video production and editing for instance). Therefore, go with a 1 or even 2tb at least if this is your case.

It will be installed before you receive it and it cannot be replaced after.
