Yellow Screen Of Death on my iPhone 13 Pro Max
This is what you get when you decide to be a customer of Apple
I bought my phone brand new, in July 2022. The warranty expired in 2023. On the 16th of November 2024, I was making a post to my Instagram story and my phone began glitching. After a while streaks of horizontal lines started developing alongside a yellow tint. Soon my entire screen became a whole bold yellow. I couldn't see the contents of my phone. I thought that was happening because the phone was overheating so I turned it off. After a while, I turned it back on, the yellow tint was still present, but left after a minute. My phone was back to normal. After a few hours, my phone was with the yellow tint and horizontal lines again. I turned my phone off and on again, the tint was still there. Minutes became hours, my phone wasn't coming back. I did absolutely nothing to have warranted this. My phone did not fall down or hit any surface. As a matter of fact, my phone looks brand new. I had been very careful with my phone because I bought it very expensive and with my hard-earned money, for my business.
I browsed the internet about what could be happening to my phone and found that this is an issue consistent with the iPhone 13 series mostly, and only a few people who use the 14 and 15 series have complained about the same problem. From my research, it's a manufacturer problem and not a user problem. On the Apple Support community, I found only two persons testified of getting a waiver even after their warranty had expired, out of over 5000 complaints.
I spoke to a senior advisor at Apple and she sounded unwilling to help and like it was uncalled for to request a waiver outside my warranty for an issue that is consistent with a lot of the iPhone 13 series users. She suggested I go get a diagnosis before they could proceed. TBH, it just sounded like she just wanted to get me off her hair, because after my phone had been diagnosed and I called back, the person who spoke said he can only help people in the US and Canada. He said he would refer me to someone in my jurisdiction who could assist me. He gave me the number attached to South Africa's Apple support which is entirely unreachable everywhere. I called back and this time, nobody wanted to speak to me.
The authorized service center is saying I should pay N720,000 to repair my screen. Can you imagine that? In 2022, I bought my iPhone 13 Pro Max for N670,000. Where in the world am I supposed to get this money from? Why am I supposed to be paying out of my pocket for an issue that aligns closely with reports from other users, indicating it is a design or production fault. My warranty is off, and so I cannot use my phone for over 2 years? Since when? My iPad's warranty was off and I was able to use it for more years after, same with my iphone 8+. My phone becoming unusable just barely a year after its warranty is absurd. Even people whose warranty have expired, experience this problem and so I believe it falls under Apple's responsibility to address, regardless of a device's warranty status.
But they don't care, especially if you're in Nigeria. There is absolutely no support for us. I don't know why we still give these people our money. They have clearly deviced a way to get money regardless, from people that have not yet upgraded their iphones, by planting a bug in their phones to prompt them to buy a new screen.
My life has been disrupted because of this whole issue with my screen. My business has come to a halt, I soon won't be able to access my work (9-5 job) content because I need 2fA codes from my authenticator app which on my phone. If I can't access work content soon, I may be fired. No money from my business, no money from my work. All because I chose Apple that don't care about even a strand of hair on my head. I have used Apple products for over 8 years now and this is what you do to me. Rendering my life unlivable.
Thank you Apple.
