Switching my son’s iPhone and all app data to his own Apple ID For app and media

Years ago, my son’s iPhone was set up under his own Apple ID example (joe@me.com )but for purchase’s and media we use family sharing under my id example (dan@me.com)this was required by apple if under 13. Now he’s older and wants to move out on his own , we want to transfer everything to his own Apple ID for purchases we bought the apps (games) for him we do not play games that we paid for. Our concern is that it sounds like he’ll lose all game info music etc. in-app builds and status, etc. He can get the apps but he’ll be starting from nothing. No app updates and he would have to pay for everything again this seems not fair and a bad practice and against the law to make more money when children become adults. This should be changed, how can he keep what i bought for him and continue paying for himself

If it was purchased with your account you cannot transfer ownership, only share it from the account that owns it. Moreover, if he was playing the game under the account that owned it and the score database is linked to that Apple Account (as opposed to a vendor account) then all the scores are stored under that account and cannot be transferred.

This is not a trick by Apple. It sounds to me instead that you were not using Family Sharing the way it was intended but were simply using your account under his Media and Purchases setting. Read How to share apps and purchases with your family - Apple Support An honest mistake on your part but one that has no solution other than for him to either continue to do things as they were, start using Family Sharing as intended (with some possible data loss) or to start over again.

No I am not using his account I was the adult I’ve had an Apple account since 2007 I used one email for Apple ID (.me) not (.iCloud)and for some reason I used my Comcast email for apps and purchase I think that was the only way to share with wife and children back then ? I had children family sharing was not a thing in 2007 we used iTunes for all purchases which I lost allot of music when they got rid of iTunes, The system was developed later and my 2 young children are 21 and 24 now but I bought thousands of dollars in apps, games, music etc in 17 years, I want to let my 24 year old to start paying for his own stuff now, but he will lose music, apps, games and who knows what else there should be a way to let him keep apps, games, subscriptions he uses and start paying with his own Apple ID ( grandfathered in?)
