Since iOS 18 BBC iPlayer has stopped playing on TV via HDMI adapter

I used to download TV programmes from BBC iPlayer and connect my device to the TV via the Apple HDMI lead. Everything worked perfectly — both downloads and live streaming. However, since upgrading to iOS 18, while I can still mirror everything as before, actually selecting Watch Now or playing a download causes the app to become unresponsive. Sometimes, I even get the message: “Something has gone wrong. Reconnect and try again.”

Fortunately, my wife still has iOS 17 on her iPad, so we can keep watching as we always used to!

Anyone else having this bother ?
