The black area of your iphone is called the Dynamic Island and various apps, both Apple and third party, can take advantage of the space. It’s either a sports app or a news app that is displaying scores. You’ll need to find the app on your iPhone and disable the use of Dynamic Island.

Do you have the Apple Sports app installed on your iPhone? It’s not installed by default and has to be downloaded from Apple App Store.
