Macbook Air user id autofills incorrect password

So, when I wake my 2023 Macbook Air, or turn it on if it's been off, it autofills the space for user id. Of course they just appear as dots, but it's much longer than my real password. If I hit return with the autofill password it sort of wiggles and it's rejected. By now I'm just in the habit of automatically erasing the autofilled password and manually typing in my real password, which is... (HA! Thought I was gonna do it didn't you). So this is just a minor annoyance, but if I can straighten this out without having to change my password I would like to do it. I haven't been able to get into settings to a place where I can see what password is set for the computer, but it must be the one I type in manually, since that's the on that works, right? Don't wanna change that.
