Final Cut Pro vs Motion for VFX in 2024
I have a hard time understanding the difference between Final Cut Pro and Motion in 2024. I understand that originally Final Cut Pro was supposed to be for editing (cutting) and Motion for VFX. Final Cut Pro was the Premiere Pro equivalent and Motion was the After Effects equivalent.
But recently, all the useful VFX features has been added to Final Cut Pro - not Motion. For example, if you want to do rotoscoping, Final Cut Pro has got both the Scene Removal Mask (an AI based difference matte) as well as the awesome Magnetic Mask. Motion is stuck with doing a manual frame-by-frame draw mask. If you want to do frame interpolation for advanced slow motion effects, well Final Cut Pro has the machine learning based Smooth Slo-Mo. What exciting new features has Motion gotten in the past years?
The main features lacking from Final Cut Pro is a keyframe interpolation editor to create eased keyframes and Motion Blur when changing the position of layers, but I have a feeling these will be added relatively soon.
So my question are:
1 - What's the purpose of doing VFX in Motion in 2024? It seems to barely have any useful standout features that makes it a much better VFX experience compared to Final Cut Pro.
2 - How should I interpret the difference between the two apps?
