Dell S2722QC USB-C to USB-C or HDMI to HDMI with Mac mini M4
I've managed to get very confused about what's "best" for my set up.
I'm setting the Mac display settings to 2560 x 1440 as this strikes the best balance of size and sharpness for me.
However I see very different information in the monitor's information panel.
I'm not 100% sure what's giving me the best overall picture.
"Best" for me is sharp text when web browsing and good colour reproduction for my web designing. No gaming, no serious video watching to worry about.
I'm not using the monitor's single USB-C to charge anything so can solely be used for connecting to the Mac mini.
Here are the screenshots from the monitors display information panel and the connection type for each one.
1.
Connection: USB-C (the one with the lightning symbol on it) from Mac mini to USB-C on the monitor.
Settings: USB-C Prioritisation set to High Resolution
2.
Connection: USB-C (the one with the lightning symbol on it) from Mac mini to USB-C on the monitor.
Settings: USB-C Prioritisation High Data Speed
3.
Connection: HDMI from Mac mini to HDMI on the monitor.
I think number 1 is best as it appears to give me 60hz (missing on 2 and 3), a higher resolution (missing on 2 and 3), 30-bit (missing on 3) although it reduces USB to 2.0 instead of 3.2 but I don't think this matters for my use case as the only thing I'll have plugged into the USB-A slot is a monitor light bar so no data transfer to worry about.
Is my thinking correct? Appreciate any responses as the Dell support is clear they don't engage with Mac users for this model of monitor.
