Text replacement that does not add a space at the end?

When using Text Replacement on the Mac (not Iphone) a space is added at the end of the text, which seems to come from selecting the spacebar to activate the replacement.

Though I understand why the space- if using Text Replacement for inserting emails, the space at the end usually causes webpages and forms to return an "invalid email" error message.

Currently, I will hit the spacebar then backspace to delete the space. Sometimes I will wait for the replacement prompt and hit down arrow then enter. Is there a setting where the text I type will just be replaced without having to make a selection or hit the spacebar?

iMac 27″, macOS 11.7

One can get into the habit of pressing the space bar when the text replacement item pops up with a replacement string (or character) and the x like the following:

Admittedly, I acquired the habit of pressing the space bar on text replacements as I intended to type something after the replacement and the space was necessary for the next word spacing.

However, if you don't want to type a space to accept the replacement you can just click the mouse button (or single-tap a trackpad) and that just enters the replacement text without any trailing space.

Tested in Pages v14.2 and 12.1 on the following platforms respectively:

Tested: macOS 15.1.1 with extended Magic Keyboard. Pages v14.2

macOS 11.7.10 (Parallel's Pro 20.1.2 Guest) with same keyboard. Pages v12.1
