MacBook Pro M2 Pro can not connect to two Samsung G9 monitors

I’ve got a Macbook pro with M2 Pro chip. It says it can connect to 2 external monitors at 6k 60hz. I tried to connect to two Samsung G93SC monitors (5120x1440, somehow less pixels than 4k) with many combinations of displayports/hdmi cables. But could only get one display working at a time:

  • Reduced refresh rate to 60hz on both
  • Put both on thunderbolt 4 displayport or one on hdmi. But only one will show up (either one works, but not together)
  • Tried clamshell mode with lid closed

I saw posts of others struggling with this configuration, and reliably don’t see the reason why this is not supported in MacOS, I am guessing it’s just a missing display mode to be added in by devs, is there a way to report this?

if you have the M2 MacBook Pro it should be compatible with 2 external monitors:

MacBook Pro models introduced in 2023 or later with the M2 Pro or M3 Pro chip support up to two external displays simultaneously, based on the resolution (up to 8K) and refresh rate (up to 240Hz) of each external display.

One external display

Supports one display in any one of these configurations:

  • One display up to 6K at 60Hz over Thunderbolt
  • One display up to 8K at 60Hz (or 4K at 240Hz) over HDMI

Two external displays

Supports two displays in any one of these configurations:

  • Two displays up to 6K at 60Hz over Thunderbolt
  • One display up to 6K at 60Hz over Thunderbolt, and one display up to 4K at 144Hz over HDMI

If you cannot get it to work you might want to report it to Apple so that they can look in to this behavior, please do so using this form: Product Feedback - Apple
