why if i pay with apple there is different card number

according my knowings it’s maden for safety, but I’m not sure. Hope there is everything is fine

The retailer is not given your actual card number. That is for your protection and prevents that data from being exposed to their employees or compromised in a data breach. They get a tokenized code provided from your bank that allows the transaction to be processed securely.
