Help 90 year old grandfather. Iphine stuck between swipe up and lock out,.

Hello

I really hope you can help my 90 year old grandfather, his Iphone is acting out, and we can't figure out what to do.

It's an iPhone 12, with the latest updates on it.

The iPhone is stuck on "swipe up to recover" which always fails, afterwards it jumps to an "Iphone is not available" lock out screen on 3 hours.

I've tried a hard reset several times, with the volume buttons and home button. It just either starts the lockout time on 3 hours, or increase it to 8 hours.

I tried connecting the iPhone to my MacBook, it doesn't registrer or show anywhere.

So - i'm lost.

Any ideas?

Thanks a million in advance :)

If Recovery Mode doesn’t work, DFU (Device Firmware Update) mode is a deeper level reset. This might bypass the issue.

Steps for DFU Mode:

1. Connect the iPhone to your MacBook.

2. Quickly press and release Volume Up.

3. Quickly press and release Volume Down.

4. Hold the Side (Power) button until the screen goes black.

5. Once the screen is black, hold Volume Down while continuing to hold the Side button for 5 seconds.

6. Release the Side button but keep holding Volume Down for another 10 seconds.

7. If successful, the iPhone will stay black, and Finder/iTunes will detect it as a device in recovery mode.

It sounds like the iPhone isn’t properly entering recovery mode, so try this sequence carefully:

1. Connect the iPhone to the MacBook using a certified Lightning cable.

2. Quickly press and release Volume Up.

3. Quickly press and release Volume Down.

4. Press and hold the Side (Power) button until the recovery mode screen appears (a cable pointing to a computer or iTunes logo).

• If successful, the iPhone should now appear in Finder (macOS Catalina or later) or iTunes (on macOS Mojave/earlier or Windows).
