This Apple keyboard will work with a 2017 MacBook Air. It's the only one in the current lineup that has a Lightning port. It requires a "Bluetooth-enabled Mac computer with macOS 10.12.4 or later," and your Mac would meet that description even if you had never updated macOS.
Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad for Mac models - Apple
The Magic Keyboard (USB-C) requires macOS 15.1 or later (what WAS Apple thinking?), while the ones that have Touch ID require Apple-Silicon-based Macs. (At least with them, you can see how Apple might be relying on the Neural Engine in Apple Silicon chips to help with the fingerprint recognition.)

Not quite all Macs.
Magic Keyboard - Technical Specifications - Apple Support
Assuming that these are the correct Technical Specifications, you need a "Bluetooth-enabled Mac computer with OS X v10.11 or later." So it should be compatible with the 2017 MacBook Air (which has Bluetooth and cannot run anything earlier than macOS 10.12.4), but there are Intel-based Macs that couldn't use it (or that would require an operating system update before they could use it).
Setup should be easy.
Set up your Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, or Magic Trackpad with your Mac - Apple Support
Hey! Most 3rd party keyboards should be compatible with the 2017 MacBook Air. Apple no longer sells keyboards compatible with your MacBook, but you may be able to find Apple branded keyboards on 3rd party sites like eBay.
