The term "AirPrint" suggests wireless printing – but the thing that is really important is the part about the printer being designed so that a Mac can use it without the aid of separately-installed drivers. If you depend on a printer manufacturer to keep separately-installed drivers up-to-date when new versions of the OS come out, you may find yourself buying a new printer sooner than you would like.
The printer/scanner on my desk has both a USB port (in use) and Wi-Fi (unused). There are drivers that work on my old, half-dead Mac (which ran Sierra), but not on this one (which is running Ventura). So AirPrint & VueScan are what are keeping this printer/scanner alive.
