Printer not working after iOS 18.1.1

I hate iPhone updates. My printer worked fine until this last update. Seems I’m not the only one with issues. Will there be a fix?

iPhone 15, iOS 18

HP OfficeJet was connected just fine with my iPhone and iPad until IOS 18. This is worthless!!!!

APPLE get this fixed ASAP please.

I will not pay ridiculous annual fees to an App to fix this. I’ll just go back to using my computer and forget Apple as anything but a phone.

Yup. Same issue here. Printer wakes up when trying to print (using IP address to watch it). But never prints. Definitely something within the 18 update….grrr…I have a canon mf220 series. It prints from an HP laptop just fine. Rebooting everything is what most people do first thing. It didn’t help.

Same old. Makes me want to stop any updates from now on. OR perhaps I can regress back to previous version. I also don’t appreciate much of the other changes such as password auto load.

sorry for the rant

I have a new iPhone and a new iPad mini, i no longer can print to my Epson 2750. It takes two overrides at the printer since the page size and type is no longer recognized and then it prints 10x slower than an older Apple device.

Apple please upgrade your software! Fortunately I still have old devices so that I can use my printers!

I have an HP Color LaserJet MFP M283fdw printer. I have the same issue after updating to IOS 18.1.1. At first, I thought it was the driver issue but after looking around HP support site for a while, I found one video about checking Air Print setup. It led me to the solution. It suggested me to type the IP address of the printer which is connected to my WiFi router (in my case, it's Xfinity router) onto my Safari browser to access the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) page directly. Of course, It just hung. I noticed that the IP address reported in the Network Summary page from the printer starts with 169.x.x.x which is not corresponding to the current IP address of my Xfinity router which starts with 10.x.x.x. So, I went into Xfinity router setup and did the "forget" this printer/device to remove the printer from Xfinity WiFi listing. Then I went into the network setup on the printer (via LCD panel) and removed all the network settings, and restarted the printer (power off/on). I re-added the printer to the Xfinity router. The new IP address (WiFi) assigned to the printer is now starting with 10.x.x.x. as expected. Access to EWS pages shows that Air print is already enabled anyway. I then tested the printing and it worked fine. I also can access and print from Hp Smart App as before. I'm not sure how I got the 169* IP address for the printer. I assumed it was assigned automatically the last time Xfinity router was rebooted (DHCP is enabled by default). I updated my phone and iPad to IOS 18.x a couple of day before my Xfinity service went down two days ago. I did not try test printing until today. I hope this help or at least give you some idea where to look for troubleshooting!

Seems the only support this venue gives us is a shoulder of someone else with the same issues for us to cry on. I cannot believe that in this time frame and with these issues reported there isn’t a patch/update/upgrade or whatever it takes to rectify this. Very sad. Glad I’m not using a home office. THAT would be brutal.

There are 3 parameters that an Epson printer needs to print correctly. 1. Paper size, 2. Paper type, 3. Print quality.

The Apple print screen fails to transfer these 3 parameters correctly. In part working with Epson, I have developed a series of workarounds with the current IOS defects. I believe that these programming errors can be fixed in under a man hour. Unfortunately tech support doesn’t seem to have programmers and so I know of no other way than this to try to get Apple to correct their error.

My problem was that iOS would not select a printer. It could see them all, when I went to the printer selection option, I would select one, and a few seconds later, iOS would deselect it.

I had to disable VPN and then it worked normally. I have two apps: Norton VPN and Norton 360. I didn’t realize Norton VPN didn’t actually control the VPN (or controlled it for Norton Deluxe perhaps) and had to disable it in both apps.

maybe iOS could prompt users to disable VPN, on the next update…? 🤔

So here’s how I overcame this issue. I found out that if I download the file I want to print into the “files” folder then go to the files folder in my printer app and open it, it will print from there. So in my mind, Apple changed something that will not allow printing directly from the iPhone, but I can print from my mobile print app. There was a time, a few updates ago, where I could just simply print directly from the phone without even using the mobile print app. Then, I had to print thru the mobile print app and now I have to download to the print app and print thru it. I just adds extra steps and is a PIA.
