Does an AirTag need a subscription?
I put a new air tag on my keys. Is a subscription required for use?

As Katana-San has already mentioned ... no, it does not need a subscription to use it. However, it will need to be associated with your Apple Account to use it with the Find My network. How do so was provided with the link provided.
also they only rely on bluetooth so the range is about 30meters from an iPhone that has internet connection and Bluetooth enabled, if they are not within reach of an such they are dead in the water.
