iOS 18.1 update not downloading on iPhone with sufficient storage

The current version is 16.6. My iPhone is not downloading the iOS 18.1 update. I tried several times. my phone has around 18GB free and the upgrade says it only needs 4.9 GB. Thanks for any suggestions.

Why doesn’t my iphone XR update the latest iOS? Why doesn’t my phone update the latest iOS? It didn’t do it automatically so I clicked on download and install. Now it says update requested. So I don’t know why it won’t proceed, I have enough space.
