English QWERTY magic keyboard with Spanish QWERTY - Spanish keyboard on top no longer lets me put in 'ñ' and accents 'é' using the keys ";" and "'" respectively

When using an English QWERTY keyboard with a Spanish QWERTY - Spanish keyboard layout on an Ipad with IOS18 I now can no longer put in any accents nor use the ñ without having to press and hold on the key or use the option shortcut whereas previously accents could be accessed using "'" and the ñ with ";". I was wondering if anyone could please help me out with this.
