why does FindMy often not report for lengthy periods

My wife and I have our devices set up so we can see each other, especially when we go out on difficult roads around where we live... But I sometimes notice that FindMy will fail to report a location for, in one example I'm watching right now, 24 minutes... It went on so long that I finally called my wife to be sure she was ok... She was and was nearly 20 miles further down the road... I even asked her if her battery was low and she confirmed NO. And then a minute or so ago, it finally updated... Why so long??? I find that FindMy does that often... Is there anyway I can compel it to update??? Shutting down and restarting the FindMy app changes nothing... Any other options??? It's a valuable tool EXCEPT when it's NOT... thoughts?? help???
