Unable to perform gestures on Magic TrackPad

Recently purchased a magic trackpad, but am unable to scroll or perform any other gestures on it.

However am able to click using the trackpad.

Currently on Sonoma 14.7.1 (M3 Chip) and unable to update to the latest version as the updates are controlled by my org.

Faced a similar issue when connected to my personal mac(Intel Chip). However, I was able to upgrade to the latest version after which I am able to perform all the gestures using my trackpad.

Seems like a similar issue to this - Magic Trackpad 1st generation not working… - Apple Community

Has anyone faced similar issue with the magic trackpad and fixed it without updating the OS version?

Thanks in advance.

Even on 15.1.1 it still doesn't work properly on Bluetooth for me. Works totally fine plugged in.

Thanks for the suggestion. I also tried using the USB-C cable that came along and still the same issue. Aparrently the official website suggests that this requires a newer version - Mac with macOS 15.1 or later - https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MXK93AM/A/magic-trackpad-usb%E2%80%91c-white-multi-touch-surface?fnode=dad3b092944d4db3528a88982e4f862715475df2ffab199665b5c9a44168e513e657eab27823baf98d0dc79e87378e9cb4b0b68abd15905de2ce43daa4fd63e935bfa773b7ef8083305f5050426009d992a8ea0d1ce659c179102c676ed95e8f

and this kind of sucks. Probably the solution is that I need to wait for the 15.x.x version update.

AFAIK, what has been reported here and elsewhere, is if connected via Bluetooth to a Mac running older macOS versions, the USB-C Magic Trackpad displays various issues. For example, scrolling won’t work, and single-finger tracking, to move the cursor around, isn’t consistent. Even trying to set the trackpad speed also fails in some cases.

One potential workaround would be to temporarily connect the trackpad using an USB-C cable.

The other issue is that your corporate IT folks may be preventing firmware updates as well ... so this could affect the usefulness of your trackpad.
