Suspicious threatening email from my own iCloud email

I received an email sent on Dec. 1, 2024 to my iCloud email account. The subject line was "You have 48 hours left". The email had automatically been placed in the junk folder and was partly readable without the need for me to open it, which I had no intention of doing. After a derogatory greeting, the sender said he/she had sent the message from my iCloud mail (that was listed as the sender) and that he/she wanted to inform me about a very bad... The visible text ended there. I have seen nothing suspicious on my account so I assume there is some way a hacker/thief/scammer can "spoof" an email just like they can a phone number. Is that correct? Do I have anything to worry about? Thanks!

Hello. I have recieved the same kind of email and after looking it up, a lot of others have too. I had opened it out of but I’m not sure if that would do anythinng. I’m still a bit worried though. Anything I should make sure I do?

The only thing I really can see of it is that microsoft users seem to get it after being hacked, where login attempts can be seen on their emails. I haven’t seen anything like that on mine.

If you look up “You have 48 hours” scam on microsoft ask, you can see the whole message written out and it’s what I got

Thanks! That was a very informative article. At one point it mentioned blocking the sender's IP address. I don't know how to do that so I am just going to delete the email and continue to be aware of anything else suspicious showing up in my email. Since I didn't open the email, there is no malware that could have been installed on my iMac just by its presence in my email queue, right?
