I am trying to download photos and videos from my iPhone to my HP PC to free up data on my phone and then transfer to a portable HDD. I do not want to back up to the cloud.
There does not seem to be a quick and easy way to do this without it taking hours and hours.

I rarely use Windows but at least in Windows 10 the iOS/iPadOS devices are displayed among other drives (I usually look for it among the C drive etc) after the mobile device has issued a prompt to authorize the connection and you have allowed it. Then right-click the iPhone and set the download selection and location. I am sure a Google search can provide more detailed info.
USB2 via Lightning cable is not very speedy if there are lots of images and large movies. Some newer iPhones have faster USB-C transfer. But you only have to do it once. Verify that you get all files and backups in order before deleting them from the iPhone.
It is not the speed of transfer, which is obviously slow, I just want to know how to do it as I cannot find a program to use to access the photos and videos stored on my iphone
