upgrade hard drive space
I very recently bought an m3 MacBook Air 512gb. How much would it cost to upgrade the hard drive for a bigger capacity?

The cost to upgrade will be the price of a new Mac with more storage minus the value of your current Mac as a trade-in. Buying a new Mac is the only way to upgrade the internal storage.
A an external 1 TB SSD (e.g. a Samsung T7, which are very nice) costs <$100 and may be your best option.

The advice from Ronasara above is incorrect.
WhelieNick is correct. It is not possible to upgrade the internal storage on that machine at all.
If you purchased it directly from Apple, you have 14 days to return it for a refund and buy something that suits your needs better.
It is not possible to upgrade the harddrive capacity in apple silicon Macs, they are non upgradable I am afraid.
You can buy iCloud storage or use an external harddrive
We can not tell you. We are volunteers who offer our help on this forum. You need to take the computer to an Apple authorized service provider for the cost. Or you could just buy and attach an external disk for more storage at a much lower cost.
