Broken Power Mac G5 - retrieving data from hard drive

My 2005/6 Power Mac G5 was still in occasional use for defunct programmes. But it blew up the other day & I need to retrieve data from hard drive - mainly photos & Iphotos. My other computer is a 27 inch Mac 2012 High Sierra 10.13.6. However I will be buying a new Mac later this week. How can I retrieve files from the G5 hard drive please?

Welcome!

The hard drive is easy to physically remove from a G5 tower model assuming the drive itself is not damaged.

Once the drive is out, your can use a drive dock or a bare-drive adapter to access the data to any computer that has a USB port for file recovery. Just make sure what you use has its ow power supply to power up the 3.5-inch hard drive. Both of the ones I linked have the needed power.

NOTE: This will not save most apps. This method lets you recover files. Any apps that run on a G5 will not run on a modern Mac or PC.
