Inquiry Regarding the Use of PingFang SC Font in Apple MacOS System

Recently, our company received an infringement notice from DynaComware Beijing Limited, claiming that we used their font, DFP King Gothic SC, in content published on social media platforms. However, after thorough verification, we confirmed that the font we actually used was PingFang SC, which is pre-installed in the Apple MacOS system.

During our further investigation, we learned through online channels that Apple had commissioned DynaComware Taiwan Inc. to design the Chinese character typeface for the PingFang SC font in its operating system. Based on this information, we have the following question:

Does our use of the PingFang SC font in designing digital posters on the Apple MacOS system and publishing these posters on social media platforms constitute infringement of DynaComware Beijing Limited's copyright?

We take copyright issues very seriously and wish to ensure that all our usage complies with relevant laws, regulations, and copyright requirements. Therefore, we kindly request a clear response and guidance from your company regarding the above question.

If your company requires any further information or documents to assist in handling this matter, please let us know at any time. We are willing to actively cooperate to resolve this inquiry as soon as possible.

Added to Tom's information. This is from the Ventura license agreement, though it's the same in every version:

E. Fonts. Subject to the terms and conditions of this License, you may use the fonts included with the

Apple Software to display and print content while running the Apple Software; however, you may only

embed fonts in content if that is permitted by the embedding restrictions accompanying the font in

question. These embedding restrictions can be found in the Font Book/Preview/Show Font Info panel.

Still, best to contact Apple Legal, as muguy has provided a link to.
