How do I update OS if the message I get says "disc doesn't have enough free space".

I'm trying to migrate all my info on my 2017 macbook air but first I have to update the OS. Currently I have Catalina. When I try to update to Sequoia I get this message "disc doesn't have enough enough free space". I have delted ALOT off my computer. I only use this computer for social media, email and photos. What do I need to do to get this to update so I can transfer all my info to the new computer? Thank you.

Firstly " my 2017 macbook air " can at best run macOS 12 Monterey and nothing newer

Secondly, you do not have to upgrade the 2017 MacBook Air in order to Migrate to the new computer

Thirdly, if you what to upgrade the 2017 MBA to something newer

The question becomes, what is the size of the SSD drive on this machine ?

The Base model. came with a 128 GB SSD drive and could have been upgraded, At Time of Purchase, to a 256 GB or a 512GB SSD drive

As you have mentioned " use this computer for social media, email and photos " it would be possible this computer has the smallest of small 128 GB SSD drive ?
