migrate sync/federation from google to microsoft with existing users

We have a school manager tenant with google workspace set up for user syncing & authentication however we would like to switch this to sync/auth from Microsoft instead.

Has anyone done this and/or could recommend a specific process?

Users exist with the same usernames in both Google & Microsoft.

Can we simply unlink Google and link Microsoft maintaining the accounts previously synced from Google & their data?
