Unable to remove Dock icons on my MacBook Air

I can’t get rid of dock icons. They won’t drag, or hide or anything. Plus after the update there is a tiny photo on the upper right of the screen that I can’t get rid of!!

I am So Frustrated.

i tried all the “solutions”.

including reinstalling.
