How can I transfer music from a CD onto my iPhone?

On Windows PCs, there used to be an application called iTunes for Windows. I think Apple is trying to replace that application with another one called Apple Devices.

Not sure what that "manually transferring" is all about. The ripping process places the files directly into iTunes. Make sure you are using the process in here: Import songs from CDs into iTunes on PC - Apple Support

Yes, but it needs to be transferred to a PC and then synced to your phone. iPhone supports the following music formats:

• AIFF.
• WAV (a large, but popular format, especially in video editing)
• AAX.
• AAX+
• AA.
• MP3 (one of the most standard and ubiquitous formats in the world)
• MP3 VBR.
• ALAC.

I guess you noticed that iPhones do not have a slot for a CD. :-) You have to rip the CD with a computer, and then sync the phone to the library on the computer.
