Files crashing on iPad Air 5

I annotate the downloaded PDFs on my iPad using the Files app. In the beginning I thought the app crashed due to large file sizes. Eventually I realized there might be some underlying problem here. In the middle of adding my notes in these PDFs, the app suddenly crashes and reloads the PDF, and the current annotation isn't saved. Even the search box doesn't work properly. It crashes a million times forcing you to switch to scrolling through the pages which makes it very inconvenient.
